Ryedale Skate School
Welcome to Ryedale Skate School, the home of skateboarding in North Yorkshire. Founded in 2023 by Ryan Swain – a professional skateboarder, Skateboard GB registered coach, and experienced broadcaster, commentator and MC – our mission is to inspire, teach, and grow the next generation of skateboarders in a safe, fun, and all inclusive environment which is designed for all capabilities.
With over 20 years of skateboarding experience, Ryan has travelled, competed, and represented well-known brands across the UK skate scene. Starting at just 14 years old, Ryan quickly built a reputation as a versatile skater, excelling in vert, mini-ramp, and street skating. His first sponsor was the legendary Popcorn Skate Shop in Northallerton, and since then he has gone on to skate for and represent multiple brands, events, and competitions.
Now, Ryan is bringing his passion back to the community through Ryedale Skate School. Currently coaching over 30 young skaters of all abilities, Ryan creates tailored lessons that cover everything from beginner basics to competition-level training. Whether you’re stepping on a board for the first time or chasing your Olympic dream, Ryedale Skate School is here to help.
Our skate school sessions have already brought together children and families from across Malton, Norton, Thornton-Le-Dale, and Kirkbymoorside, with sessions growing in popularity every week. We focus not only on skateboarding skills but also on:

Ryedale Skate School is proud to offer the official Skateboard GB Get Rollin’ certificates, designed for beginners who are taking their very first steps – or rolls – on a skateboard. These nationally recognised awards provide a fun and structured way for young people and adults alike to build confidence, develop balance, and learn the core skills of skateboarding in a safe and supportive environment. Every session is led by qualified coaches who are passionate about inspiring the next generation of skaters, helping them progress while celebrating each milestone with an official certificate from Skateboard GB, the governing body for skateboarding in the UK.
